Literary Essay on The Skin I’m In Aaron Fenn

Sharon G. Flake wrote “The Skin I’m in.” The story takes place in 2000. The conflict of the story is that a shy girl poor girl gets bullied for being darker than others. She is a shy poor girl that doesn’t have friends or clothes.   The main lesson is that that bullying makes people feel bad and can make them do bad things. That is what “The Skin I’m in is about. ”

In the beginning Maleeka was a shy poor girl that didn’t have any friends, clothes, and pretty good grades. People used similes like “you’re as black as coco beans ” and ” Your dark as night” they use similes like that to make her feel bad about her skin and herself. She knows that she doesn’t have a good home to go to when she is getting bullied and she doesn’t have a safe place to go to so she feels more bad on the fact that she is bullied and has no clothes. Right now in the story her life isn’t that great and she doesn’t think that it is going to get better. That is what the beginning is about.

By the middle of the story I started to realize she was less shy and mad some friends. The only bad part is that her friends aren’t good people, they peer pressure her to do bad things for clothes. She thinks that having friends is a good things but if they are bad then it’s not good it’s bad. After the fight she got grounded and gets depressed because she was to stay at home and do chores  more and the more she gets in trouble the more chores she does, since she does so many chores she gets depressed. Also in the middle the story tells the reader that if someone tries to fight her she isn’t going to back down from anyone.

In the end of the story she burns down Mrs. Sanders room by peer pressure just to keep her only three friends, also for a bag of clothes. Her friends aren’t good people so they force her into to do bad things and she feels bad about it and if she tries to leave them they will beat her up so she can’t get out of it because she doesn’t want to get beat up. She isn’t getting bullied as she was at the beginning of the story because she is a friend with the most feared girls at school. In the end they don’t sing the “Maleeka you’re so dark ” song because they don’t want to mess with her friends. When she is expelled from school her “friends” call her to make sure she won’t rat on them because they don’t want to get trouble, but Maleeka’s mom finds out the truth about what happened at school like how she was peer pressured into doing it. Since she figured that she was peer pressured into doing that she took her back to school and to tell the truth about what happened and when she does they forgive her.

Since she burned down the classroom people think she is bad, she also got into two fights and hangs out with bad people. That doesn’t make her a bad person she just tried to make friends and she found people but they forced her into bad things for food and popularity. Just because her friends weren’t good doesn’t mean that she is bad. The conclusion is that a shy poor girl turns into a person who gets bullied into a girl with three bad friends that forced her into bad things.

Aaron Fenn The Skin I’m In

The Skin I’m in is about a girl named Maleeka  that is a little darker than the other kids. Since she is darker, the other kids bully her and she believe them and she feels bad. Her family is poor and she wears weird clothes so a  girl brought a bag of clothes for her. The books setting is mostly at school. One day she was in the hall and this girl walked ti her and said “Why were you locking lips with my boyfriend,” and the girl didn’t back down and they got in a fight. Right now in the book she has to work in the office so she won’t fight again. The setting is different from Fort Wayne because I think that they are in Africa.

The main character is Maleeka and she is darker than others and they bully her for that. She is a scared, shy girl. She can be smart but she never focuses on school and is thinking about home. The main problem is that she gets bullied a lot and thinks about that too much. Mrs. Saunderson makes her fell better that is her favorite person at school.

NARRATIVE FINAL DRAFT

Students should be able to use phones because the phones relive stress. In case of an emergency they can call 911 or the office. They should not be able to play games or take pictures of people who don’t want to be in the pictures. If someone can’t be trusted on phones because they will play music or disobey the rules. They have three chances and after they break the rules 3 times they are not allowed to have them out. The phones can distract other people if they do they shouldn’t have it out because the calculator isn’t very fun to watch. They could also cheat on test so they would have to put the phones in a box and put away. Some people would be bullied because they don’t have the best phone but if kids are on their phones they couldn’t bully them. These are the bad things with kids that have their phones.

Blackhawk Middle School’s phone policy is pretty strict, they policy is “if it is in sight it is in use.” In almost every class period kids see a phone out and teachers don’t care. The classes people don’t have their phones out are the classes that the teachers sit and do nothing in class. The teachers kids don’t see phones out are Mr. Hoering, Mrs.Knarr, and Senora Fords class. All of those teachers walk around the class to make sure everyone is on task. Blackhawk teachers don’t care if your phone is in your pocket but if it falls out they take it for the class period but when give it back. Blackhawk is pretty strict about dress code and cell phone policy. R Nelson Snider is the school Blackhawk feeds into and they let you have you your phone.

Snider High School lets student shave phones out for lunch. Some teachers let students have phones out for class for a calculator and for free time. Their isn’t that much talking at lunch because people are on their phones, and the administers don’t have to try to control the crowd because they are quiet and not making noise that everyone can hear throughout the school. In the classrooms teachers don’t care about the phones if the students get their work done and get good grades. If classes get to loud they tell them to put the phones away. That is a class that I would want to be in. A class were it is easy to pass and have fun. A class that everyone wants to be in is a class were you are allowed to have your phone out and allowed to talk.

There is a person named Micaela she is a sophomore at snider and she has changed since she went to snider. She was at Blackhawk and she wasn’t that social until she went to Snider when she could be on her phone she made more friends by being on her phone and texting other people she had made more friends in one year than she did in three years at Blackhawk.

This is going to be a school that I would want to go to. Imagine a school where you did your work on computers instead of paper people walk through the halls and no one stops t make fun of people. The food isn’t amazing but is good enough so kids will eat it but don’t care because they are on their phones. After lunch you go to recess to waste your energy so your aren’t too crazy so the teachers don’t have to handle. If you are scared of other people than you don’t have to talk to anyone because all the assignments come to you on the school app and you have to turn it in on the school app so you don’t have to interact. That is a class that I would want to be in.

Cell Phone Policy (Aaron Fenn)

Kids at Black Hawk Middle School aren’t allowed to have cell phones out. Some teachers let them have them out but the policy is In sight is in use which I think isn’t  fair because people keep their phones in their pockets so people don’t want their phones stolen. People have phones and their pockets and teachers have to take that away that isn’t fair. Mr. Evans sub now known as the ”Lit sub”  let us get on her phone and gave us candy for being her favorite class. I think that we should have a class period of break from work to be on our phones. If they don’t have a phone than the can play games or use IPads. All day we have stress from homework every day and if they are getting bullied they could really use a break from school and play games on their phones.

At Snider they are allowed to have their phones at lunch and Can use them for a calculator, and to communicate. That is what schools should be ran with the cell phone policy. People have more fun on their phones than watching people. The teachers can’t yell at kids to be quiet if students our on their phones being quiet. Kids will want to play more outside at home which is true because more people play sports at snider than at Blackhawk. People at Blackhawk want to go home to play on their phones because they don’t get enough time. More people will be happy to be on their phone than not to be. Some people don’t have many friends so them playing on their [hones can help than get more friends through social media. This is what Snider High School has the cell phone policy.

This is going to be a school that I would want to go to. Imagine a school where you did your work on computers instead of paper people walk through the halls and no one stops to make fun of people. There is a hour nap time after lunch and recces if you don’t want to go to sleep than the teacher will read their favorite book for an hour, if they want to play on their phone. The students use desks in the class. If they get a 100 on a test or any paper they get 5 monopoly dollars and they an invite 3 other classmates to come and sit with them at a table with 4 yoga balls to do their work. They can also buy candy with the monopoly money.

That is what I want my school to be.

SSR+ Reflection

The book is called “The Nightmares” written by Dan Poblocki the book is about a soul that hunts down people and take them to the afterlife. I like the character is the soul. The soul is dressed in a black hat, black pants, and a black hat. He makes people see him then mess with their brain, he drops something and hopes that they pick it up then he will teleport to the thing he dropped than gives them a punishment for stealing.

I like this book more because it always has action and never is boring, this is why i have read this book so well because books that have a little break of not exciting I don’t want to read the rest of the book.

I would recommend this book because it has a lot of action and never stops the drama.

I think that this book make me want to read more to finish the book and to figure out the soul was in real life. One thing I got better at is asking questions about the book and characters.

Mostly i don’t really improve on reading on reading during the year but this year i am getting better and want to read more.

I am a reader

The last book I read was Percy Jackson Lightning Thief. I liked the book because their was always adventure and is a really good book. I read this book over the summer.

The book that I chose at the library is called the Night Mary. I think that it is about spirits that come back and haunt different people that didn’t like them.
